Table Lantern
Lantern Instructions
- Make sure your printed pattern is accurate with your ruler.
- Cut out sides first. Grind foil and solder into a triangle the lower halves.
- Cut out as one large piece the inner triangle first, grind & test fit.
- Make sure it fits just on the inside of the lower half, then score & break the triangle to make the space for the cord to fit through.
- Foil & solder the triangle together.
- Tack solder it into place on the lower triangle already assembled.
- Test fit the 3 upper sides so they are parallel with the lower halves. You may have to remove some solder from the lower section so they can fit just right.
- Foil & tack solder the 3 upper sides into place. Test fit the hex cap to make sure it does fit. view image
- Finish soldering the upper sides. Use 50/50 to fill gaps at corners and at the middle seam.
- Also solder along the top & bottom edges with 50/50 once you have tinned the foil with 60/40 solder.
- Scrub the hex cap with fine steel wool, clean off & tin, with a little bit of solder and a lot of flux.
- Clean the cooled cap off and solder into place.
- Patina the piece if desired & polish.
- Install the fan lamp cord by inserting from the underside of the base, pinching the ‘legs' together to fit through the hex cap. view image
- For the Table Lantern, cut out and assemble the 3 panels individually, solder each both sides, tin and build up top & bottom edges if you want.
- Tin the 3 brass balls the saem way as the hex cap, lots of flux, little 60/40, and a pair of pliers to hold them with.
- Tack solder the sides and test fix the table lantern in its new base.
- Assemble the table lantern sides.
- Turn the table lantern upside-down and solder the brass balls on the corners, with the flat side against the bottom of the lamp.
- Solder the brass balls to the inside seam as well.
- Clean, patina & polish and you're done!
