When making a straight line cut, use an L-shaped plastic cutting guide. These guides have enough thickness to them that your cutter will not ride up on them. Many people still use a flat steel ruler on which their cutters could ride up on and damage their cutter heads on. Replacement cutter heads cost more than a cutting guide. When cutting a straight line that isn't at 90 degrees, put some cork stripping along the cutting guide to prevent slippage while cutting.
Never go over a score line more than once! You will damage your cutter wheel.
Score glass by starting at one edge of the glass, and maintain even, light downward pressure on your cutter, all the way across the piece of glass.
