LearnSTUFF

Quad Yeah! Classes with Erica Biery

Stained Glass Stuff is pleased to host an emerging young warm glass talent, Erica Biery, for two days of classes, covering 4 different topics. Erica was asked to take over several existing classes at Glass Craft & Bead Expo in Las Vegas in the spring of 2010, but she will be teaching many of these classes here first!

Many of you who have taken advanced workshops here either with Patty Gray or Mike Dupille have met Erica as she assisted in these workshops. She is a gifted artist and instructor, despite her passion for the Nittany Lions.

Thursday AM: How to use Morton's Portable Glass Shop and more!

For nearly thirty years, the Morton cutting system has provided hobbyist and professional glass cutters the ultimate tool in producing accurate and repetitive glass pieces. Learn how to easily set up for strip cutting, cutting standard geometric shapes, and any angle needed. Quickly and accurately you can turn a perfect square into triangles, and diamonds into hexagons. Lamp makers, mosaic artists, fusers, glass artists, jewelry makers, and glass teachers all agree you benefit more by understanding all the Portable Glass Shop has to offer you. Come sharpen your glass cutting skills!

Thursday PM: Glass Stamping

Decorating the surface of your glass is easy with the Stamping on Glass technique. You will learn to transfer graphic images to your glass by using rubber stamps. This class will cover the mixing of high fire enamels with the Stamping Medium™ and transferring them to the stamp and finally to the glass. To further embellish your work, mica powders will be demonstrated, along with other techniques like pen work, stenciling and matting. Information on firing with enamels, including firing schedules will be covered.

Friday AM: Millifiore Mashing

In this class you will learn how to make your very own intricate pendants and earrings! By placing the millefiori in ceramic molds you will be able to create hearts, crosses, teardrops, ovals, and circles. Discover an exciting new way to combine “mashed millis” into tack fused dimensional pins, using stringers and twists and other Effetre (104 COE) {formerly known as Mortetti} component parts. When you “mash” the hot milli it becomes thinner and expands the design. The trick is in the squish and this class will teach you milli mashing along with using a variety of jewelry molds. Firing schedules for the various stages of tack fusing as well as the time and temperatures used for dimensional and full fusing will be covered.

Friday PM: Vertical Frit Painting

In this class, just like traditional sand paintings, glass frit is poured between two sheets of glass held in a vertical frame. Sticks are used to position and play with the frit to create imagery. Set-up, colour interactions and firing schedules will be discussed and demonstrated.
