Stained Glass Stuff is pleased to announce that Mike Dupille will be teaching his latest Frit based class, "When the Frit hits the Fan!" here in our studio from Wednesday, October 12th to Friday, October 14th, 2011. This Three Day class will run from 9am to 5pm. The class size is limited to only 8 students, with some previous fusing experience required.
This class is now full. If you would like to add your name to the waiting list, please contact Kevin.
Mike is one of the pioneers of the warm glass movement, having started with glass blowing in the 1970's, then progressed into using crushed up glass, or frit, to compose super detailed pictures, in a process he called "Fritography" Mike has also worked with developing new kinds of mediums for mold making and casting glass.
You can see some of Mike work on his website, and in books like Boyce Lundstrom's three books on Advanced Fusing and Richard LaLonde's latest book, Fused Glass Art and Technique. He has done work for Bullseye, taught at Camp Colton, Hot Glass Horizons, Glass Craft & Bead Expo, and all across the US and into Mexico. This will be Mike's second visit to Ottawa. Hopefully it will not be snowing while he is here.
This workshop will cover a variety of different techniques and processes, and is less focused on creating imagery with frit. However, many of the things taught here may be utilized in creating them, including multiple firing. Mike will cover the basic practices of Fritography, combining them with unusual shapes, and use a variety of dam methods. There are several other ways of working with frit he'll explore as well; including making "Frit Sticks", "Vitrios", and a new process called "Scratch and Frit".
The fee for this workshop is $775, HST included. We are taking deposits of $150 to secure spaces in this class. The final price will include HST, materials, use of tools, firing, a hot lunch each day, and light refreshments throughout the day.
