Pricing Your Work

People who do this as a hobby and go to craft shows or sell pieces to friends/co-workers etc, often ask "how do I price my stuff?" There are three common formulas that we can use.

  • One is based on the square foot size of the panel. Account for what your overhead will cost, materials, and your labour, and then work that against the size of the panel. Here at Stained Glass Stuff, we typically quote a price of about $100.00 a square foot. It can go down a little, it can go up a lot.
  • A second is to establish a price per piece, like $3 a piece. A panel with 50 pieces would cost $150. You may have to adjust the price per piece depending on the type of project, (lamp vs panel).
  • A third way is to calculate your material cost for the project as 20% of the total cost (Materials=20%, labour=80%). If your material costs you $40, the finished piece should cost the buyer $200

Diamondcrete Mixture Ratios

Diamondcrete standard mix ratio is 1 cup powder to 2 fluid ounces of water.

MOLD DIAMONDCRETE WATER
Single Brick 4 8
Double Brick 8 16
Tree Ring 10 20
Cross 13 26
14" Circle 18 36
16" Square 20 40
Fan 19 38
Small Butterfly 23 46
Angel 24 48
Large Hexagon 24 48
Address Stone 24 48
Splash Block 28 52
Moonstone 28 56
Curved Bench 132 264
Straight Bench 132 264

Small Box of Diamondcrete = 13 Cups
Large Box of Diamondcrete = 33 Cups

There amounts do not fill up the mold to the top. This is normally not a problem, as Diamondcrete is expensive, but on the Address Stone, if your letters are taking up the whole side of the Stone, the glass will be sticking out. You will need to top up the mixture by about 10 cups or so. Be prepared to mix more in a hurry if you are still short.

Diamondcrete Colours:

We have a sample board of Diamondcrete colours in the store for you to see what they all look like.

Terra Cotta Beige
Adobe Rose
Earth Brown
Garden Green
Gray
Charcoal
Antique White
Brick Red
Dusty Plum
Golden Wheat

Premium Colours: Powder Blue and Mauve (are a little more expensive, don't ask me why, I don't know)

If you are making a stone during our cooler seasons, make sure that the Diamondcrete powder is at room temperature and also try to use warm water (75 degrees) for a stronger stone. You can also try to use any handy electric mixer in your kitchen to stir up the mixture. Another thing to keep in mind is that the lighter the pigment colour, the less water will be required to reach the proper 'milkshake' consistancy.
