Lesser Known Tool Promotion

We are going to be doing this over the next several newsletters, as a way of letting you know what some of the other tools that are on the market can do for you in stained glass.

Our first Lesser Known Tool is the Foil Dispenser.

This little plastic device comes in a lovely shade of whatever colour they have chosen to make it in (Light Blue at this time) and has seven progressively larger slots to hold all sizes (1/8" to ½") that you would be using on stained glass.

The slots have a thin opening down low on one side , where you can pull the copper foil through. The idea behind the Foil Dispenser is to eliminate having your foil spilling out of the bags it comes in, or getting all tangled up. It keeps your workspace neat and tidy, at least the copper foil part of it. Here in the studio we have three in use, one for copper foil, one for black-backed copper foil, and another for silver-backed copper foil. We typically will have a couple of rolls of 7/32" on the go at a time, and one of 3/16" and 1/4" opened and in the dispensers as well, in each type of copper foil colour backing.

The Foil Dispenser normally sells for $21.95, but will be on sale for the month of April at the special price of $16.49, a savings of 25% off the regular price.

If you are Neat Freak like Kevin, you just have one or more, so your foil rolls are kept neat and untangled.

BANDSAWS

Of all the tools you can buy for yourself to do glass, this one is about the best thing you could ever buy. Not for everyone and not cheap, this Bandsaw you will give to your kids or grand kids. With proper care (and not much of that), this thing will last forever. I can't imagine doing glass with out one now. You don't use it all the time but are you ever glad it is there when you really need it.

The Special On DL 1000S

Price includes 2 blades, and some freebies, extra guides, a container of mark stay, plus a gold & black pen.

All for only $599.99

This is probably the best value for money for any glass tool you can get. , if you get one you will not regret it , tax refunds accepted.

TECH Tips: Using Mark Stay and grinding/bandsawing... We mentioned this stuff before, when it first came on the market. We didn't know what to make of it at the time, but now, it has become a vital element of ours while grinding and bandsawing. Just draw your line with a black pen on your glass , get a little bit of Mark Stay on your finger tip, and wipe it over top of your line, along the whole length of the line. It does have a brownish colour, so if you put too much on, you will not be able to see your line any more. (Kevin learned this the hard way).

A little goes a long way! Go grind or cut on the bandsaw, and the water that spills on top of your glass will not wash away your line. It's that simple, and it works. We've used it to help us do large panels with lots of text in them, and it will make your life a lot easier and your project will get built that much faster.

List of more stuff to add to the 15% sale:

  • replacement parts for tools
  • solder & foil-lead/brass/copper/zinc cames
  • all other accessories & doodads
