Glass Tip of the Month

Stay awake while you are doing stained glass. If you are getting tired, put down the 700 degree soldering iron, and go do something else.

But seriously, folks...To keep your iron in good shape, have a solid, heavy iron stand, with a holder for a damp sponge. Wipe the iron tip on the sponge frequently while soldering. Rub any built-up gunk off on a block of Sal Ammoniac, and then wipe the residue off on your damp sponge.

Also, whenever you are finished soldering a project, unscrew the nut that holds your iron tip in place, (after the iron has cooled down!) Take it off, and then screw it back in place. This will help prevent the nut from becoming welded in place, and impossible to remove whenever you have to replace the iron tip.
