Merry ChristmasCustomer Application and Christmas Cheer EveningYes,the old scrooge himself wants to break open the piggy bank and throw a Christmas bash for all our friends and customers. So Everyone is invited to drop in at the store on Thursday December 12 from 6:00 p.m to 9:30 p.m. for the Stained Glass Stuff Christmas open house. Some light refreshments will be offered. So take some time off from Christmas shopping at those silly Malls and spend some time with us. Chris, Kevin, David and Dave will all be all there . Kevin will have the Kilns running and show you all the New Stuff we have for Slumping and Fusing. Chris will be showing off his new collection of blown Dragon Balls and Paper weights. Dave will be there and we will have the bead torches out showing off our new line of Hot Bead making Equipment. And hopefully Mr. Tappin himself will decide not to go off for a long weekend or trip somewhere and will be there as well. |
Cold, Warm and Hot Glass and the Best Prices In TownAs noted in David's article, lot of new and interesting things have happened in this year and most of it concerns glass. One of the most interesting has to do with warm and hot glass. Chris has been playing out in Merrickville with a blow pipe and you can see his work hanging in the front of the store as well as read his article on what's new in Hot Glass. Kevin on the other hand, never being much of a cook at home, has decided to improve on this. As a present for Drew the door slammer, he has decided to learn how to bake cookies. He is doing this at the store so his Kim does not find out and delegate more domestic duties his way. But to be a little different he is using glass as an ingredient and he has been producing an assortment of Bowls , Plates, Stars and other objects du art. These processes are called slumping and fusing and are referred to in the trade as working with warm glass, so named because the glass is heated in a very hot oven to around the melting point but not to the really liquid point. Layers of glass with the same CEO Number ( VERY IMPORTANT THAT THE GLASS USED HAS THE SAME COE NUMBER) can be fused together into a solid piece that consists of many different layers. This glass can then be placed in the kiln again, this time on a form and SLUMPED into a new shape, bowl , plate or what-ever. This is a very simplified explanation only meant as a background for those of you who have never heard of the technique. Kevin can offer a more detailed explanation at the store and for Sixty Whole Dollars you can partake of the fusing 101 class that will operate out of the back of the store starting certain Saturdays in January 2003. |
