The Winning Story ... What I did on My Summer Vacation

For summer vacation, Napoleon our veteran adventure dog invited his shy new canine sister to his favourite vacation spot: site 512 at Bon Echo Provincial park. Separated by water from everyone else and their delicious sausages, 'tis a place where humans and hounds can relax. Canoe delicately laden with backpacks, intrepid camping dog, new chicken dog, husband. Canoe promptly tipped. Canoe less-carefully ladened with wetbackpacks, wet camping dog, trembling wet chicken dog, etc. Canoe arrives at base camp. Lo! Katarina the chicken dog transformed into Queen of the Forest. Howling and baying at all manner of critters deep in the woods. Intoxicated by hersurprising bravado, Napoleon was led astray.Then they were lost. Their owners anxious, distressed. Smoke signalsfailed. A tense, houndless two days and two nights. A desperate move:delicious sausages procured from the mainland.Then, chicken dog slinking back to base camp with tail between her legs and older brother, guilty, behind. Queen of the Forest wouldn't budge frommummy's lap. No voice, no wanderlust. All vanquished.All the same, next year its site 516 on the little island with the lake onall four sides.
