A new year, same bizarre weather. What a wonderful country we live in. Luckily for those who love stained glass, the year has a whole bunch of great new things for you. Think of them as slightly delayed Christmas Presents.

Road Trip!

Hot Glass Horizons will be in Corning, N.Y. this year on April 21st to 23rd. It is a 3 day conference of 14 of the top warm and hot glass talents from North America. You get to select which classes you want to take, and they can be 1, 2, or 3 day classes. We are thinking of putting together a road trip to drive down to attend the show. The plan would be to leave on Wednesday April 20th in the morning, with about a 5.5 hour drive to Corning, and return Sunday, April 24th. If you are interested, please contact Kevin ASAP. Our preliminary number crunching gives us a travel cost of about $1250 per person, and that includes the Course Fee, hotel, van rental, and gas, based on 4 people going. If we can fill a van with up to 7 people, the costs would come down. Dinner is included every night of the course, and there is a lot to do in Corning beyond what they have planned each night. Check out their website for more details: www.hotglasshorizons.com

If you are interested, please let us know so we can co-ordinate everything now and get everyone booked into the event.

New GST Bevel Cluster!

GST-125C ElelphantGST-125C Elephant $129.95, 16 pieces, 10" x 10" Grey bevels with clear bevels for the tusks.

We have 2 Morton Thrifty Lite Boxes left over from our Painting 101 class last weekend. They are assembled, and include a GE 25" Bright-Stick, and a sheet of 3mm float glass and a sheet of 3mm sandblasted glass. Sold separately, all this stuff would be about $95, but these last 2 are on sale for only $65.00! Once they're gone, they're gone!!

All Xmas books, Bevel clusters, & accessories, 30% off! Look in our Bargain Box on top of the Stock Bevel display stand in the Purple Room.

Glass Boxes

We are lucky enough to have a few stained glass boxes now in that were made by a local master stained glass artist. He is very talented and makes the best boxes we have ever seen. Lots of little details, decorative soldering, and more that will leave you drooling. They range from $70 to $225.

New Books

4 More Aanraku books! They must be getting closer to their goal of 100 published books by now!

Table Lanterns, IV, $21.95. A compilation of the top 25 Table Lantern patterns submitted by the public.

Eclectic XII, $21.95. More complex 'beginner' patterns from Aanraku. A few of them have what appears to be details that might be painted on, and after our recent Painting 101 class, that is now possible for some to do.

Book Patterns, by Cally & Dave Beers, $ 21.95, 28 pages. The subtitle says it all, 'Intellectual Interpretations'.

Victorian Patterns II, by Dan Gamaldi, $21.95, 28 pages. A book of transoms, that almost all incorporate the house number in the middle of the design. The number parts of the design could also be painted, fused or sandblasted if desired.

Glass Art magazine, $7.50. A magazine about different kinds of glass. It typically has a featured glass artist, articles by artists like Dan Fenton and Butch Young, and lots of other interesting things. One good listing is the Industry News, which lets you know when various artists are holding workshops across North America, so if there is somebody who you really want to go see, you can track them down.

Petite Prairie Patterns, by Mary Datwyler, $ 19.95. 18 Prairie style patterns in square, rectangular, circular and semi-circle shapes. They likely should be enlarged for ease of construction.

Beginning Patterns, by Denny Berkery, $ 24.95. A very well thought-out pattern book for those just starting in stained glass. There are 40 full sized patterns in this book. You will have to pull out the staples to get at the patterns. There also is a thumbnail version of all the patterns included in this book for you to copy and colour on to try out possible colour schemes. The subjects include Contemporary, Floral, Birds, and Victorian.

Glass Patterns Quarterly, Winter 2004, Vol. 20, No.4, $7.50.

In The Wild, by Jean Beaulieu, $ 19.95, 27 pages. A new Canadian designer under the SGN Publishing department, this book has 12 designs featuring various wild animals from Africa & Asia. Some are in a suncatcher style, others are in a panel, but all do require enlarging for your sanity's sake.

'tis the Season, by Elaine Fossler, $ 19.95, 27 pages. A nice collection of 12 new designs for Christmas, that are a little unconventional. There is some use of overlay, some 3-D forms, and one design of a 10" Church Scene can be fitted into the new 10" Wrought Iron Art Display stand.
