Stained Glass Gallery

May 4, 2005

Like the native Palua tribesmen who taught Koror how to fish, on April 17th, SGS taught all those who came how to fix their stained glass projects.

We will be posting a detailed report on our Road Trip to Hot Glass Horizons in Corning, on our website, with lots of photos & gossip from the warm glass world, in the near future.

Congratulations to our Spring Contest Winner, Tino L, who wrote this about the sheet of glass up on our wall:

Drunk monk trying to find his way back to the Abbey through the woods.

New Books

A Medley of Stained Glass Patterns, by Bettye Phillips, $ 26.95, 50 pages. Remember the saying you can't judge a book by it's cover, this is that book. The cover is kind of boring, un-inspiring, but open it up to the colour pictures in the middle, and things improve in a hurry. There are all kinds of designs, suncatchers, large panels, sidelights, patio stones, and more. They did use a software package to colour in the designs, which does look a little odd in some places, but made up for it with the best Glass Used list for every single project on the book. They list every glass by manufacturer and code. It would be nice if every book came with this kind of list.

Contemporary Glass Enameling, by Kay Bain Weiner, $56.95, 167 pages. A new take on fusing, with lots of frits, enamels, decals, paints and more being used in creative ways. Lots of examples of leading warm glass artists throughout the book, including many who were at Hot Glass Horizons recently in Corning, N.Y.

We got in a copy of a new magazine, Glass Craftsman. For those interested in warm glass, ask to see it, it is full of fascinating how-to articles on all manner of fused work. Check out their website, www.glasscraftsman.com for details on subscribing.

Glass Patterns Quarterly, Spring 2005, Vol.21, No.4, $7.50 now in stock.

Peter McGrain's Traditional Stained Glass Painting, Volume II, Advanced Techniques plus Stains & Enamels DVD only at this time, $47.95, 2 disc set, 3 hours long.

We are renting this Volume out as well, $7.95 for 1 week, enquire for availability, it has been popular so far.
